Dolmens

“Chemins et dolmens”

Exploration trails in Southern Ardèche

With nearly 900 in total, Ardèche is one of the regions with the most dolmens in France, eclipsing even Brittany. It’s an often overlooked heritage that the communities of the Gorges de l’Ardèche, the Pays Beaume-Drobie and the Pays des Vans en Cévennes nonetheless all treasure. Five exploration trails, connected by a route of dolmens, have been laid out through the municipalities that initiated the project – Beaulieu, Chandolas, Grospierres, Labeaume and Saint-Alban-Auriolles. “Chemins et dolmens” was awarded the “European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018” label by the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (Regional Directive for Cultural Affairs Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes).

Wild territories to explore

At 10 km in length, the Pays Le Tour du Tanargue GR® will lead you to the heart of the Monts d'Ardèche Regional Natural Park. This wild and varied territory in the Cévennes d'Ardèche is a real hotspot of biodiversity and puts agropastoralism in the spotlight. Lying mostly along a ridge, the trail winds its way most often at an altitude of 1000 m or more. You’ll get stunning views over the peaks of the Monts d'Ardèche and the Alps, as well as over the three surrounding valleys.
Under 4 km away is the GR® 4 which starts from Grasse and goes all the way to Royan.
